Description:

People Incorporated is searching for a Grant Writer / Manager (111001) to function as an integral part of the Development/Advancement team for People Incorporated Mental Health Services (PI). This person will write a significant number of grant proposals each year and provide leadership and shape strategies to secure grants from diverse sources, both private and public, that provide vital financial support for PI programs and services statewide.

Working across business lines, the Grants Manager/Writer will plan and implement a comprehensive grants fundraising strategy responsive to PI priorities and funding needs, including writing multiple proposals per month. The Grants Manager/Writer will also provide leadership, project management, technical assistance and coordination to collaborate with PI Managers and Directors to develop successful, high quality grant proposals. The Grants Manager/Writer will provide ongoing training to PI program staff on prospect research, grant writing and proposal development strategies for both short- and long-term program needs.

Duties:

Critical responsibilities include the following:

  • Research and identify prospective government agency, private/community/family foundation, and corporate funding sources
  • Cultivate an ongoing portfolio of grant prospects and funders; maintain relationships with current grantmakers and develop strategies to move to a higher level of giving
  • Write public and private grant proposals in implementation of comprehensive plan
  • Facilitate site visits and regular communications with grant review contacts
  • Provide leadership, project management, and coordination skills to collaborate with PI Program Managers/Directors/Senior Directors in developing successful, high quality grant proposals to secure competitive funds
  • Provide leadership for the ongoing improvement of the processes for grants development, monitoring, and reporting within Advancement and enterprise-wide.
  • Supervise the work of Grants Development Consultants, future Grant Writers, and Interns

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • BA or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 4-6 years experience in nonprofit grant writing (private/public competitive processes) with a proven track record of success
  • Knowledge and familiarity with a wide spectrum of public and private funding streams/processes
  • Excellent persuasive writing, grammar, research, proofreading, and copy editing skills
  • Excellent organization, project management, and time management skills
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office products, Raiser�s Edge database, and web-based technologies

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work and prioritize independently according to a demanding, fast-paced, deadline-driven production schedule
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal and persuasive communications skills
  • Knowledge of local, statewide and national philanthropic sources and trends
  • Ability to guide short- and long-term strategies to cultivate diverse statewide funding streams
  • Interpersonal savvy in managing multiple and varied projects simultaneously
  • Persuasive and responsive writing and editing skills
  • Ability to compile quality research and compelling statistics pertinent to each funding request (i.e. demographics, social service issues, regional trends)
  • Extreme attention to detail in crafting cover letters, grant narratives, and grant attachments
  • Ability to review grant budgets critically with knowledge of budget expectations and norms
  • Ability to discern and implement a time-efficient project approach based on knowledge of various staff working styles (statewide and across lines of service)
  • Cognitive judgment to proactively seek out new funding opportunities where they exist
